Le premier enregistrement de Suzanne est bien celui de Judy Collins en 1966. L'auteur-compositeur Leonard Cohen, qui l'a écrite en hommage à Suzanne Verdal McCallister, ne l'a enregistrée qu'ensuite et juste après la très belle version des Enchanted Forest.
En français, Suzanne a aussi été interprétée, après Graeme Allright et Françoise Hardy, laquelle a d'ailleurs enregistré le titre en anglais et en français, par Les Polissons, par Marie Laforêt et, plus récemment, par Fabienne Thibeault, Bashung, Sylvie Vartan, Nana Mouskouri, Pauline Julien et La Grande Sophie ainsi que Nolwenn Leroy. Mauranne puis Nana Mouskouri ont également enregistré le titre en duo avec Graeme Allwright. La chanteuse et violoncelliste québécoise Jorane (Johane Pelletier) interprète une version de "Suzanne" sur son dernier album "Une sorcière comme les autres".
Une version écrite par Joe Dassin est chantée par Valentine Saint-Jean (Vava du Big Bazar) sous l'intitulé "Ballade à Suzanne".
Toti Soler, Perla Batalla et 7 Segundos en interprètent des versions en espagnol. Une version en catalan est chantée par Jordi Soler.
Il existe aussi des versions en allemand Dunja Rajter sous le titre "Suzann", ainsi que par Howard Carpendale mais le groupe de folk allemand, Tangerine Dream, a aussi réalisé une belle version, en anglais, de cette chanson. En dialecte frison Roel Slofstra chante "Suzanne".
En néerlandais la chanson a été interprétée par Herman van Veen, par Mama's Hasje, par Franck Boeijen, seul ou en duo avec Yasmine et aussi par Rob de Nijs.
En suédois le titre est chanté par Frida du groupe ABBA et par Anna Sise.
En italien Fabrizio de André a chanté "Suzanne" tout comme Mia Martini.
La chanteuse belge Yasmine (Hilde Rens) est aussi une des interprètes, en flamand, de ce titre.
La belle version norvégienne est interprétée par Kristin Solli.
La version finnois est interprétée par Hector.
En tchèque, Robert Křesťan chante Vila tout comme Poutníci alors que Juraj Kukura interprète Susanne.
En danois Thomas Troelsen chante "Susan".
Parmi les reprises, notons celle du groupe de folk Fairport Convention (ma version préférée), celle de Joan Baez, celle de Nina Simone, par Spanky and our Gang, par les Sandpipers, par Esther Ofarim, par Field Music, par FMT featuring Camilla et bien d'autres, lesquels ont réalisé de bonnes interprétations de la version originale. Joan Baez et Bob Dylan ont aussi chanté ce classique en duo.
