Présentation : Titre principalement écrit par Paul McCartney qui se trouve à l'origine sur la "double face A" d'un légendaire 45 tours où se trouve également "Strawberry fields forever" (quant à lui majoritairement écrit et composé par John Lennon). Les deux titres évoquent chacun deux parties de Liverpool qui rappellent leur enfance. On retrouve Penny Lane sur l'album "Magical Mystery tour" sorti en décembre 1967.
Le titre se démarque par sa mélodie simple et efficace, mais surtout par l'utilisation de cuivres et d'un solo de trompette (joué par David Mason).
