Le premier succès spatial de David Bowie a été magistralement adapté en français par Gérard Palaprat sous le titre "Un homme a disparu dans le ciel".
L'album dont est issu ce titre ne s'est appelé que Space Oddity qu'après sa réédition de 1972.
Sur Ashes to ashes en 1980, Bowie reviendra sur ce morceau en parlant de "junky" pour évoquer le personnage Major Tom qu'il incarnait.
Le Major Tom qui donnera d'ailleurs son nom à un groupe français présent dans la base.

Pendant un instant j'ai tressailli…non,ils n'auraient pas osé? Une œuvre culte comme Space Oddity sur ce site! Hérésie, sacrilège! Mais non, on lui rend hommage plutot, je préfère ça; parce que sinon ça aurait pu péter!!! Peut etre le plus beau morceau de MOSSIEUR David Bowie

Et dans ashes to ashes, on reconnais parmi les figurant du clip Steve STRANGE, le chanteur du groupe Visage, avec un chapeau délirant. Si, c'est bien lui !
