La chanson "ready for the 80's" est extraite du double album "Live & Sleasy" (1980), censé marquer un tournant dans leur carrière, une remise sur les rails après le flop de ce qui aurait dû en être le sommet, le film "Can't stop the Music". Comme son nom l'indique, le premier album était un live reprenant les tubes bien connus (façon d'assurer la vente en capitalisant sur ce qui est déjà engrangé), le second, baptisé "Sleazy" marquant le nouveau départ : nouveau chanteur (Victor Willis, le policier, ayant été, selon les versions, viré pour cause d'abus de drogue, ou écarté pour le lancer en solo (mais il n'a jamais enregistré le moindre disque)).

Un nouveau chanteur, Ray Simpson, frère de Valérie Simpson de "Ashford & Simpson", une couleur un peu plus "rock" (toutes proportions gardées !) et à l'aube d'une nouvelle décennie ce single d'un optimisme indécrottable, qui ressemble plutôt à une exortation désespérée quand on sait qu'ils ont coulé à pic malgré une grotesque tentative de recentrage "new wave / punk" sur l'album suivant ("Renaissance"…)

[et pourquoi tout ce commentaire sur un jingle ? Ben parce que comme un benêt j'ai retranscrit le tout à partir du vinyl que j'ai sans réaliser que la chanson elle-même n'était pas du tout dans la base… Ca m'a permis de réécouter ce titre dont je connaissais seulement le refrain.
