La chanson "No charge" est interprétée par Tina and Mommy soit la jeune Tina Byrd Jones et sa mère la chanteuse de country Tammy Wynette, également interprète de "D.I.V.O.R.C.E.", "I never promised you a rose garden" ou "Run angel run".
L'autre face du disque, sorti le 5 mars 1974, comprenait la chanson "The telephone call" interprétée par Tina & Daddy soit toujours Tina Byrd Jones mais cette fois avec son père George Jones. C'est ce titre qui inspirera "Le téléphone pleure" de Claude François qui paraîtra en octobre 1974.
La chanson a aussi été (bien) reprise la même année par la chanteuse Melba Montgomery puis par le canadien J.J. Barry (de son vrai nom Barry Authors), en 1976, ainsi que par Shirley Caesar, Johnny Cash, J.C. Lodge, en version reggae, et par Val Doonican.
En 1976, Billy Connolly, chanteur-humoriste-acteur-producteur-scénariste écossais, a interprété une version modifiée, intitulée "No Chance", dédiée à la lutte contre les violences domestiques.
En plus de la version française de Marie Laforêt, "Cadeau", où le décompte de la somme est faux,le titre a été adapté par le chanteur néerlandais Bob Bouber sous le titre "Voor niets". En danois, l'adaptation "Ingen regning" a été chantée par Peter Belli ainsi que par Johnson.
