Le titre a d'abord été créé, en 1954, sous le titre "Jock-a-mo", par Sugar Boy Crawford à partir d'une ballade folklorique puis plagié par les Dixie Cups qui en feront un succès en 1964 en l'intitulant "Iko Iko".
En français, "Aïko Aîko (en parlant d'Anna") sera chanté, en 1968, par Julie D. (Julie Dassin) puis repris par Hugues Aufray. En 2005, Henri Dès chantera "Allo Pépé".
En portugais, Angelica va interpréter "Milk shake" et que la version allemande "Aiko Aiko" a été chantée par Tina York.
La version suédoise, "Aikoo Aikoo" sera chantée par Jussi and the Boys alors que Gösta Linderholm va interpréter "Iko iko" et que" Älgko mä kalv" sera chanté par Bröderna Dobermann.
La version turque, "Tik Tak "a été chantée, de façon entrainante, par Gökçe.
En norvégien, "Kåre Bjarne" est chanté par Bjelleklang alors qu'en italien, les Motowns interprètent "Sagamafina".
Une version anglaise différente a été chantée par Charmaine Deville et par Dora & Aaron Neville.
