Présentation : "Shot in the Dark" est le premier single de l'album "The Ultimate Sin", (le quatrième de Ozzy) une période marquée par une esthétique très glam (cheveux crêpés, vestes en cuir brillant, maquillages appuyés).
C'est aussi la première apparition d'Ozzy avec Phil Soussan (bassiste et co-auteur du morceau), et Jake E. Lee à la guitare, déjà présent sur "Bark at the Moon".
Le morceau a d'abord été composé par Soussan pour son ancien groupe Wildlife, avant qu'Ozzy le récupère, le retravaille et l'enregistre en version définitive.

C'est un Ozzy plus « grand public » mais toujours habité par sa voix unique, légèrement nasillarde, chargée de tension et de mystère.
