Gimme Hope Jo'Anna est une chanson contre l'apartheid en Afrique du Sud. Jo'Anna est la contraction de Johannesburg.

Cette chanson a ensuite été parodiée par le groupe allemand satirique d'heavy metal J.B.O. (James Blast Orchester) sous le titre "Gimme Dope Joanna".
Elle a aussi été adaptée dans une publicité pour les yaourts Yop avec "Give me Yop (me mama?) when the morning come".

En 1988, année de sortie de ce disque, le monde entier commémora les 25 ans d'internement de Nelson Mandela et un gigantesque concert intitulé "Free Mandela" fut organisé à Wembley pour réclamer sa libération.

Exite aussi la parodie "Gimme Hope Joachim" en hommage au sélectionneur allemand Joachim Löwe et à la Mannschaft.
